Royal Ambassadors, Kings as Ambassadors. A Contribution to the Study of ‘the King’s Craft’ in the Hellenistic World Diplomacy was a key aspect of the political life of Hellenistic kingdoms. Kings carefully selected their diplomatic representatives among their friends (philoi) and relatives, although one cannot speak of specialization. They very rarely led negotiations in person, but became more and more directly involved in diplomatic activity after the First Macedonian War, as mediators, advisers, and ambassadors.
